QUESTIONS

What is the cost of treatment?

The cost of the initial appointment (approximately one-hour) is $210 and following one hour appointments are $200 payable in full on the day of consultation.

Telehealth appointments are available and cost is $190 for one hour, payable in full on the day of consultation.

Private Health care rebates are available from most funds (please check your eligibility directly and details of rebates with your private health fund).

Medicare rebates are available for some clients, under certain conditions and with a GP referral for up to ten sessions per calendar year. The rebate available for the service that I provide is approx imately $95 ('gap' payment of approximately $105). Please talk to your GP about your eligibility for this service.

Do I need a referral?

If clients are referred under the Medicare Better Access to Mental Health Initiative, then a written referral from a GP is required. Please talk to your GP about whether you are eligible for this. No referral is necessary if clients want to claim through their private health fund. Please check with your health fund for information about rebates because they vary from fund to fund. No referrals are necessary for the online courses.

What will the first session be like?

Most people feel nervous or anxious before their first appointment, especially if you have never seen a psychologist before. I understand that sharing your problems with a stranger can be daunting, but I strive to create a safe and supportive space for you.

Before your first appointment, you will be asked to provide personal information and complete a confidentiality and privacy agreement. This ensures that your rights are protected and you understand your rights to confidentiality.

During the first session, I will ask about your reasons for seeking counselling and ask questions to better understand your concerns. I may also ask you to complete a questionnaire and take notes as we talk.

My priority is to provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you can openly discuss your concerns and work towards personal growth and healing.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?

My approach integrates evidence-based techniques like mindfulness, cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, eye movement desensitisation reprocessing, as well as lifestyle considerations like nutrition and exercise. I believe that a holistic approach to mental health is essential for achieving lasting well-being.

Will I have to go over all my past issues and talk about my childhood?

No, you will not be forced to discuss anything that you don't feel comfortable with during therapy sessions.

Psychologists, including myself, cannot "make" you talk about a specific topic or "read your mind" to guess what your problems are. However, I may ask you questions about your personal history and family life in order to better understand how your past experiences may be impacting your current situation and your future goals.

It's common for people to reflect on their past during therapy, as this can lead to greater self-understanding and personal growth. However, the focus of therapy is always on helping you overcome current challenges and work towards a brighter future.
