About Me

Dr Angie Willcocks PhD

I provide psychological counselling to individuals and couples from my practice in Norwood, as well as via Telehealth. Over the course of my career, I’ve developed a holistic approach to mental health, recognising the vital connection between emotional wellbeing and lifestyle factors.

My professional background spans community mental health services, non-government organisations, universities, and private practice across South Australia and New South Wales. I’m the co-author of The Sensible Sleep Solution, a guide for parents on infant sleep, and have contributed to Mining Family Matters, supporting families in the mining sector. I also collaborate regularly with Emerging Minds, including as a guest on their podcast.

My current areas of interest include perinatal and parenting mental health, adjustment to life transitions, anxiety, and birth trauma. I’m trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, and draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MB-CBT), and existential counselling. Most importantly, I believe that therapy is most effective when grounded in a strong therapeutic relationship—working together in a respectful, collaborative way to support the changes clients want to see in their lives.

My academic background includes a Bachelor of Health Sciences with First Class Honours in Psychology from the University of Adelaide, a Master of Counselling Psychology from Macquarie University - where I focused on successful transitions to parenthood - and a PhD from the University of South Australia, exploring the links between diet and perinatal mental health.

I take a collaborative, compassionate approach to therapy, working with clients to develop personalised treatment plans that consider the whole person. By integrating evidence-based psychological strategies with practical, real-world solutions, I aim to support each client in navigating life’s challenges and moving toward meaningful, lasting change.
